Barcamp ESM European Edition

Would there be any interrest on the other side of the world for a Barcamp ESM ?

The otherr side being Europe, and more specifically Belgium.

Update... Just took a quick glance and it looks like either 4/5/08 or 5/10/08 would be good dates for me.

Brussels was proposed, given it's central location and accessibility in Europe, it sounds reasonable. so +1 for Brussels from me.

Next Steps....

1) Are we a go? (I say yes)

2) What is the date 4/5/08 or 5/10/08 works for me.

3) What city. I think the consensus is Brussels. Sounds good to me.

4) What venue. I think a bar/restaurant like J Backs in Austin. Where they would let 15 to 25 people have a small section of the venue. Someone in EU would have to take this task up. We could check with whurley and see, but I think J Blacks gave us the area since we guaranteed we would buy lunches. If we don't get sponsorship we can all buy our own lunches.

5) Can we get sponsorship? We can ping some companies if we get some traction. whurley is this something you or BMC would be interested in? I'll buy the beer.

Are those American or European dates ?

I'd say let's give some more time to see how much interest there is, before we fix the dates.

We should check to make sure the dates do not coincide with some EU or NATO event.

So in order to prevent US/Euro datetype conversion you are talking about April 4th and May 10th aren't you ?

I would suggest to go for the May date at this moment, given the fact that Barcamp Gent is already taking place the last weekend of March.

I`ll be on the lookout for a location in Brussels

Sorry about that.

It looks like Apachecon 08 is going to be April 07 2008. That April 05 Saturday might be a good weekend to catch some of the Apachecon crowd (including some vendords that might be coming from US).

Looking at the current status we are 5 or 6 interrested people.

I don't have a venue yet and given the number of people committed so far I think it might be better to try and meet in a pub for some drinks/food and get to know eachother.

We can always see if a bigger crowd shows interrest to organise a new edition.

What do you folks think ?

I say we make it a go. I am planning on being in EU April 5, 08. If you want I can add a page the the Barcamp.org and if only 6 people show up we will just hang out in a pub. If more show up we can find a bigger place. Let me know if you want to make it official for April 5, 2008 in BE.

Guys, what ever happened with this effort? It would be great to see a BarCampESM in the EU, but it sounds like we may need to get a little more support going for it first. Thoughts? Updates?
